LONDON—October 17th, 2005—Alfresco, Inc., the first provider of an open source enterprise content management solution, today announced that it is partnering with Siennax to offer a trusted, hosted service for Enterprise Content Management (ECM).Traditional ECM systems were built on technology from the 1990’s. Alfresco is built on modern service oriented technologies such as Spring, Java Server Faces and Web Services that enable the cost, complexity and implementation to be dramatically reduced
Siennax offers a utility computing platform with services for application management, learning management, billing and payment and sourcing. In this hosted model Siennax applies a “pay-as-you-go” model whereby clients pay only for the services they actually use. Siennax is the first European provider to have been awarded a Trust Services Certification. This is an auditing standard established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA)
“One of the reasons that the ASP, or hosted, model for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) has not lived up to its promises is that hosted ECM systems are often far less functional than internal ECM systems. Conversely, it is often the case that ECM systems designed for internal use do not perform well in a hosted environment”, said Michiel Steltman, CTO Siennax. “Alfresco has turned this model around by enabling companies such as Siennax to deliver high-quality, enterprise-grade ECM to a much broader audience”.
The Trusted Services Certification of Siennax and the leading open source auditing and security of Alfresco gives clients the reassurance that they will need to manage the increased levels of internal control that is necessary in today’s compliance–driven environment. ECM is at the core of managing new legal, auditing and quality standards. The Alfresco software is true zero footprint ECM whereby no ActiveX or Java Applets are required on the client. It is easy to setup and users can be invited to groups without costly administration. As the system is not proprietary and uses standards such as JSR-170 and web services, a client can use the same system both internally and externally. Customizations are simply developed using industry standards and can be shared across both environments.
