Alfresco Downloads Break through 100,000 Landmark in First Six Months

Alfresco Experiences Significant Downloads after Launch of Release 1.1
LONDON, December 12, 2005 Alfresco Software, Inc., the first provider of an Open Source Enterprise Content Management solution, today announced that it has experienced a surge in demand for its software since its launch on October 31st and with the follow-up Release 1.1.
Alfresco experienced more than 40,000 downloads on SourceForge so far in December. This put it in a leading position for Open Source enterprise software and in 22nd position overall - relative to the more than 107,000 projects that SourceForge hosts.
“Our goal is to not only provide an open source offering, but to surpass commercial offerings in terms of features, functionality and benefits to the user community,” said John Newton, Chief Technology Officer, Alfresco. “To support these goals our philosophy is to:

“Release 1.1 follows this philosophy, being released a month after the product launch and integrating many ideas and contributions from the Alfresco community. Role-based security has been pushed down from the Alfresco Professional Network to the Alfresco Open Source product which is free to download from SourceForge.”
Release 1.1 has increased functionality in the areas of:
- Administration - Group Based Security, Space Permissions Management
- Customization – Dashboarding and Templating Enhancements
- Library Services – Minor and Major Check-In/Out Option
- Content Contribution – CIFS and WebDAV Versioning
- Content Categorization – Meta-Data Extraction as an Action
- Advanced Search – User Interface Improvements
- Platform Integrations – PHP and .Net through Web Services
